latest obsessions.

1 - I've been the hunt for a pair of everyday earrings that hug the ear lobe.  I had basically given-up on ever finding them until my friend Katy showed me a pair that were EXACTLY what I've been looking for.  Simple yet interesting - timeless but fun.  They can be found at Steven Alan and come in silver and gold. You can probably guess what color I got them in.

2 - Making a Murderer is what would happen if the Jinx and Serial had a baby (Netflix is killing it). It's a thought-provoking and intimate look at our legal process and quite possibly what's wrong with it.  Binge-watch as soon as you can.

3 - I discovered this butter in upstate NY last summer and will now only eat toast if it's slathered in it. It's incredibly creamy, impossibly rich, and almost cheesy tasting.  It makes all other butter seem paltry in comparison.  Oh!  and it's salted which makes it that much better.

4 - These socks are my saving grace in the winter.  Incredibly warm, the perfect amount of cheeky, and made in the USA.  What more could you want in life?  (My favorite striped ones are pictured above.)

5 - Our puppy-bear.  Jackson Randall was adopted 12/27 and is quite simply the best (minus his aversion to going down stairs).  A 2 year old lab-pit mix (or so we think).  He gets called handsome a lot and loves the ladies.   In addition he is a little foodie (with a particular fondness for beets, carrots, and parmesan), loves ripping apart squeaky toys, and is very big on snuggling and giving kisses. Quite frankly, we are in love.

latest obsessions.

1 - This plate (or should I say set of plates) which may be the greatest antique find of my life.  When Tyler took my to Hudson, NY for my Birthday earlier this summer we visited the Rhinebeck Antique center on our way back home.  As a child I hated antique shopping but as an adult I'm happy my parents instilled in me a love for old things.  These plates were spotted in one of the booths and they are everything I love.  Gold and black marble? Can I get a hell yes?

2 - Superiority Burger.  This post says it all.

3 - I've developed an absurd obsession with Podcasts.  Most conversations with Tyler now start with "So I was listening to a podcast and...".  Current favorites include Slate's Working which is all about people's jobs and what their day to day looks like and Start-Up which gives an insider look at starting a company.

4 - These JCrew tank tops which are the best tank tops I've come across in a long time.  Thicker cotton, breathable, and versatile.  What more could you want?

5 - Tyler and I started the latest HBO miniseries Show Me A Hero and so far we love it.  It's by the same director as the Wire (BEST SHOW EVER) and is all about the building of low income housing in Yonkers in the Eighties. Incredibly interesting and very well-done.

6 -  My favorite look as of late is a sparkly over the top earring with jeans and a tee-shirt.  If you are looking to copy the look, might I suggest these

7 - The Bon Appetit list of top 50 restaurants.  My food list for Portland and Seatle was long before, it's even longer now (must walk 10 miles a day).  Super excited to see a couple from Maine as well (Tandem Bakery is one of my personal favorites as evidenced by the fact that I made my in-laws go there to buy me more of there amazing banana bread and chocolate chip cookies).

latest obsessions.

The latest obsessions.

Pretty much anything and everything on HBO including -
-Going Clear the documentary about Scientology is an incredibly fascinating look at a cult that disguises              itself as a religion.
-John Oliver "Last Week Tonight" which is genius in the way it presents news.
-Silicon Valley for a hilarious look at the tech industry.

Soludos espadrilles.  I am obsessed.  They are beyond comfy, utterly chic, and positively timeless. I just bought these but I am pretty sure this is just the beginning of my collection.

The quinoa bread from Arcade Bakery.  Actually pretty much anything from Arcade Bakery.  I swear I haven't shut up about this place since it opened, but I can't help it, it's that good.  And if they have chocolate almond croissants GET ONE.  See above picture if you need extra encouragement.

This side table which makes me want to reconfigure our living room solely so I can own it.

I just finished All the Light We Cannot See and it is (thus far) the best book I've read this year.  There is a reason it won the Pulitzer. Don't let the subject discourage you (I will be the first to admit I usually shy away from WWII novels) - it is incredible.  Go and devour it this weekend.

Gold hoops.  I've been looking to upgrade by 6 year old Forever 21 ones for about 6 years now.  I think these may be it.  Perhaps a birthday present to myself?

AMPLE HILLS ICE CREAM.  The butter cake one is insane.

latest obsessions.

I've begun to realize that I am apprehensive of sharing things on this blog that don't fall within the "food" category.  For the most part this blog is a food blog so why should I talk about anything else?

But I am a person of random interests and what is a blog if not a forum for talking about things you love so I'm creating a new weekly installment which I like to call "Latest Obsessions".  This will run the gamut from books and TV to chocolate bars that I can't get enough of.  It will be a whole lot of hodge podge but it will also be a whole lot of fun.   Hopefully it helps you find something new to love.

The JINX on HBO may be the greatest documentary/mini-series ever created.   Tyler and I binge watched the first 4 episodes this past weekend and we are now obsessed with all things Robert Durst. He is one phenomenally interesting and twisted person.  A multi-millionaire who has been linked to several different murders but never actually accused.  A must watch.

Miley Cyrus singing 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover.  This has been on repeat.  Like, serious repeat.  Girl can sing.

The Storied Life of A.J. Firky is my latest read.  It's about love and books and it may be the best novel I've read in a while.

While Tyler was sick this past weekend, I had a nice "me" day in the city on Saturday where I visited the farmer's market and took myself to Breads Bakery.  I didn't expect to buy a loaf of Marizpan Challah but I did and it's awesome. Call ahead to make sure it's available as I think it may be a Saturday only kind of thing.   (See above photo for proof of its deliciousness.)

I finally caved and bought myself a pair of sneakers (other then white Converse) for wearing places besides the gym.  These are them and they are awesome.  They look killer with white jeans and a tee as well as with black jeans and nude sweater as they provide the perfect pop of color in my otherwise neutrals-centric wardrobe. Also, I am pretty sure I am entering my thirties as I am now only interested in practical shoes.  (Kidding! I spotted these most impractical shoes and am currently in love though they are out of budget and Tyler called them awful.  If anyone wants to buy them for me I will pay you in cookies and hugs.)

This story from NYMag about people who are atypical and live on the fringes of social margins is utterly fascinating.
